Reading opens the window to the entire world, and then some. And it certainly is an avenue to discover new pathways and role models for one’s own life. This is the rationale of the leaders of the Milwaukee Fellowship Open which commissioned CLIMB to establish a first ever Youth Voice Essay Contest. And the first book in the essay series features a consummate role model – Reginald Lewis’s biography, “Why Should White Guys Have All The Fun?”.
Those who are familiar with the world of high finance will immediately understand the reasoning behind the title. The world of finance is lucrative and fun, and it is virtually devoid of diversity. The book chronicles the education and financial endeavors of business icon, Reginald Lewis, who is reputed to have orchestrated the largest leveraged buyout ever by an African American.
The mission of the Voice of Youth Essay Contest is to facilitate the development of critical thinking and constructive self-expression among Milwaukee’s teens and young adults. Teens who are between 16 and 22 on March 1, 2021 (the essay contest submission deadline) are eligible to enter. Participants in this contest must enter through a Collective Impact Collaborating Organization. The list of CI Collaborators, registration guidelines and other information can be found here.
We thank the Fellowship Open and Beta Alpha Sigma Pi Phi for their support of this project.
Submissions must be received by 5pm on March 1, 2021.
